Dear All,
I want to provide some updates on the Moodle 4.0 release.
Moodle 4.0 beta
We’ve been working hard towards the Moodle 4.0 release, and I am pleased to announce that today we've reached beta stage. This is an important milestone as it signifies that the main features and improvements have been incorporated and we are ready to commence our QA test cycle.
As we enter the last phase prior to release I also want to thank everyone who has contributed so far. As an open source project we couldn’t have done it without you!
Moodle 4.0 QA testing
Quality Assurance (QA) testing will commence from Friday March 4th onwards. The best way to test Moodle is by testing together with you, our end-users and Moodle community. We highly value your input, and I invite everyone to help test the exciting new changes coming in Moodle 4.0!
To find out more about how you can participate please visit our QA testing page. We also have our Testing and QA forum, and a Moodle QA Telegram channel (invite link) to support any queries that arise during the test process.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated!
Release date
Commencing our QA cycle brings us to the final stage towards the release of Moodle 4.0. A typical QA cycle takes approximately 4 weeks. In this case, due to the significant changes as part of Moodle 4.0, I anticipate we will need 4 - 6 weeks to allow for any issues that may be uncovered. This means the release is scheduled for the week of April 18th.
Moodle support update
I also want to take this opportunity to let you know that we are extending security support on Moodle 3.9 and Moodle 3.11 to November 2023. We are also extending general bug fix support on Moodle 3.11 by 6 months to November 2022. This will provide additional support and time for sites to make the transition to Moodle 4.0 or Moodle 4.1.
All the best,
Sander
